A LIFE DEDICATED TO CREATING GREAT LANDSCAPES
Founder of Andreasens Green – Maurice Green AM
Just over 45 years ago Maurice Green founded Andreasens Green Nurseries at the Lansvale Nursery in Sydney. Maurice saw an opportunity to Grow quality plants to grow quality plants to support a rapidly growing cityscape and evolving landscape industry. The early days were humble. One truck. One delivery run per day. Maurice’s wife, Tina Green, was involved in the business from the start. From these modest beginnings, Maurice and Tina laid the foundations of what would become one of Australia’s leading wholesale nurseries.
Create Great Landscapes
As the business grew Andreasens Green became synonymous with an enduring philosophy: Create Great Landscapes. Throughout the 1980s, the nursery played an integral role in supplying landmark projects that still define Sydney today – including the NSW Parliament House Rooftop Garden (1983), Garden Island (1984), Macquarie Street (1987) and Bicentennial Park (1988). These projects were not just jobs; they were part of a movement that elevated landscape architecture and urban greening in Australia.
Building an Industry, Not Just a Business
In 1984, alongside Darren Mason, Andreasens Green began sponsoring The Landscape Contractors Association and The Landscape Architects Association of NSW. Maurice, Tina and Darren attended industry events to build relationships with Landscapers and Architects. These relationships and industry body partnerships have been strengthened and extended over the last 42 years. We can all be proud of the major role Andreasens Green has played in helping the fledgling “Landscaping” industry establish itself as a legitimate profession within the Australian Building and Construction Industry.
A family business legacy that is built to last generations
Maurice was a forward thinker. In 1985, recognising growing demand for tropical and indoor plants, he purchased land on the Gold Coast, establishing what would become the Yatala nursery. In the mid-1990s a new 50 acre nursery was built at Kemps Creek, positioning the company for the increasing demand for larger specimen trees as projects became more ambitious. In 1995 Maurice’s son, Tony Green, joined the Andreasens Green business and worked closely with his father, Darren Mason and other key staff like Diane Wilson to expand the business by supplying a large number of major projects for the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
In 2010, a Green family Board of Directors was formalised to lead the continued expansion of the business and create a family business legacy that is built to last generations. Maurice appointed Tony Green as Executive Chairman of the Green family Board. Maurice referred to his own role on the Board as “Founder”. As Founder he mentored Board members and Managers in the business. Maurice continued his Founder role right up until he passed away in February 2024.
Maurice planned the handing over of his legacy to the next generation of the Green family through the appointment of six Green family members to the Green family Board. Current Board members include his four daughters (Mandy, Jo, Kate, Sarah), his son (Tony) and his wife (Tina).
The Green family Board is committed to sustaining and growing the legacy that Maurice left them. They want to build an even more exciting and prosperous business for the next generation of staff, customers and Green family members to enjoy.
