LEMUR ENCLOSURE, TARONGA ZOO, SYDNEY

Project Completed by Stephen Edwards Constructions with Landscape By Design as the Landscape contractor.

The brief was for the Lemur Enclosure to represent a Madagascan forest using replicated Madagascan plant species. This made it difficult with the relatively small time frame we had to grow and procure a lot of the unusual stock, however we were eventually able to get approximately 98% of the stock that was required.
The Bottle Tree (Brachychiton repestris)  which is one of the centre pieces of the enclosure was purchased from Northern NSW, freighted down and craned in. After installation they found the Lemurs wanted to eat all the leaves off the Bottle Tree  and strip it bare, so a fine type of electric wire system was installed on the tree to protect it from the Lemurs.
